The Music program at WAAPA offers arguably the strongest Jazz Music program in the country. WAAPA has now had ten Generations in Jazz – James Morrison Scholarship winners. The Jazz program, coordinated by Australian Jazz Artist of the Year, Winner of the 2003 World Saxophone Competition and Morrison Scholarship winner, Jamie Oehlers, is a unique course that develops the jazz skills of students while encouraging experimentation and innovation – allowing young artists to be themselves and express their views on the world through mnusic.

Students have an opportunity to learn from the greatest players in the world through WAAPA’s amazing visiting artist program, play with ensembles of all varieties and perform with the best young players in Australia. This years sees the cohort work with artists like Greg Osby, Megan Washington, Kneebody, and George Garzone to name a few. 3rd and 4th year students also have the option of undertaking international summer school opportunities in Europe and the US.
