Vivian Sessoms (NYC)

Hailed by Taylor Dayne as one of “the most dynamic, sexy and soulful singers,” Vivian Sessoms has performed all over the world with some of the biggest names in music. Starting her career at the age of 9, she's recorded and performed with everyone from Michael Jackson to Cher to Q-Tip throughout the course of her multi-faceted career.

“I thought the heavens had opened up and rained down some of the best singing and performance style I had ever heard,” professed Patti Austin on Sessoms.

Her new album LIFE is her third studio effort and first foray into the realm of jazz. Backed with a rotating lineup of all-star musicians, the album explores how people have more power than they realize, how we are all more alike than we are different, and how little things end up making big differences.

Born and raised in Harlem, Vivian learned the wonder of music at an early age. Her mother, a session/jingle-singer, her father a flautist/percussionist (who played with James Brown), she is also the niece of jazz legend Nancy Wilson. Surrounded by music floating out of nightclubs and churches, and regular jam sessions at her family’s home, she was already singing by the time she could talk. "Growing up, there was always music playing in our house. Both my parents were musicians, so it was all around me. I was so immersed in it, that I kind of viewed music as a backdrop to my life", she recalls.

As a teen, she was approached by Melba Moore, Teddy Riley and Stevie Wonder to record. She then went on to work with Joe Cocker, Rob Thomas, P!nk, Patti Austin, Patti Labelle, Sinead O’Connor, and most recently Christina Aguilera to name a few. She has been a featured vocalist for jazz artist Chris Botti, composer Ryuichi Sakamoto ( High Heels, Little Buddha) and Towa Tei (international DJ, pop group Dee-Lite). Not content to stop there however, Vivian soon began to write and produce for Lalah Hathaway, Amel Larrieux, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Jeff Kashiwa, David Morales, Towa Tei and Junior Vazquez among others, and has had feature songs in several films including Moonlight Serenade starring Amy Adams & Alec Newman.

Vivian is now putting the finishing touches on a new disc entitled LIFE. Her first record in years explores how people can come together to make a difference. “I just know that when I hear a song I love, it takes me some place, sometimes that place is a beautiful place. Music has that power.. I hope this music will inspire that.”
