Town Hall, York
81 Avon Terrace (Cnr Joaquina St)
ph: 9641 2233
Constructed in 1911, the Town Hall is a significant part of York’s townscape and a fine example of Edwardian opulence, with its columns, ornate facade and significant fanlight over the main entrance.
At the time it was built the Town Hall was thought to be the largest public hall in Western Australia with an interior floor space measuring 100 by 50 feet (30 by 16 metres). Originally used by Council, the Town Hall was also a venue for picture shows and has always been the centre of social life in York. Today, the York Town Hall is constantly in use for a wide variety of social, community and cultural events. The Shire of York holds monthly Council meetings on the upper floor.
